We finally know what Web 2.0 is...

... it's an O'Reilly Service Mark!

How wonderful to finally have a succinct definition of this term :P

If you're a stickler for details, Web 2.0 is registered as a trademark not by O'Reilly but a company called CMP Media which apparently registered Web 2.0 with the USPTO in November of 2003. According to O'Reilly, CMP Media co-produces the Web 2.0 conference. CMP Media is part of a larger UK-based company called United Business Media which also owns PR Newswire.

So, I guess it's fair to say that Web 2.0 is officialy owned by The Man! Time for a new term? How about the Open Web?
